I have a 2 month old Weimaraner. Just got him yesterday.
Can y'all give me your opinion on the best flea collar?

Mule I am not real sure, most of the things I see are for dogs over 12 weeks. Occasionally though I will see one for over 8 weeks, but not sure if they actually work or not. Not much help, sorry...But post up a pic, I have always wanted a Weimaraner, they are soo pretty.

Pitmamma,

I made a mistake, He was born 4-30-08, so he is almost 12 weeks old.

You have e-mail.

The best thing I have found and my vet recommends doing this if you have a bad flea problem get some capstar good for pups and nursing females it will knock all the fleas off with in 20 min and will work up to 24 to 48 hours after 24 hours have past they told me to us Advantage for a flea preventative.

I called around yesterdy looking for Frontline collars and had no luck. I'll call more today.
I'll be looking for Capstar and advantage also.
It looks like Hartz is most available here.
I use Ivamec on my grown dogs. But not on puppies.
The spot-on stuff is good and I can get it for puppies, but $45.00 is "too" much.
I also ain't got a lot of money to spend. That's why I call around before I go looking for things nowadays. At the price of gas I can't be running all over town looking.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

many things I could say but not going to...

Flea collars do not work for the dogs entire body basically they are
only going to keep fleas off the dogs neck area.

here is a few quick
remedies for you for fleas that are on your pup now...
wash in the original
dawn dish liquid it will remove the fleas that are on the dog at the
time...

Better suggestion is Diatomaceous *sp* earth dust it is a
natural dust that will cut the fleas exo skeleton and cause them to dry out ..
there is no insecticide in this dust it is safe to even eat. You can pick it up
at your local feed store usually... It is typically used on goats and
livestock.

you can also add garlic powder and or brewers yeast to the
pups food every day it takes a bit to work but it causes the dog to not be as
tasty to the insects and tends to repel them after it starts to come through
their skin.

Avon skin so soft is also a good flea repellent and it smells
good as well. It can be mixed into the rinse water for after you give your dog a
bath.

Seven dust for
bedding if the dog is outside can put it in their straw try to only use a small
amount...

there are other remedies i am sure that will be as effective as these are.

do some searching online.

gl to you

Thanks for your suggestions, and I will try them, first.

Some how, I think I am glad you are not going to say the many things.

I will try, also, to search on line. I normally have very little luck looking for information on line. I guess it is cause I don't enter the right words in the search area.

The monthly flea preventatives may be expensive, but they're waterproof and keep the problem gone. We use Revolution since it's a flea and heartworm preventative. It gets expensive @ $14.00/tube for single doses, but it's better than dealing with flea infestations.

I have used advatage and advantix...and neither were any better than the one for $1 at Wal-Mart....
I use ACV and garlic powder...seems to be the best things soo far.

I dusted him with the Diatomaceous earth dust one afternoon. It dried up a lot of them.

The next afternoon I mixed dawn dish detergent with water in a squirt bottle and soaked hin good several times. Then rinsed him off. When he was drie I rubbed him down with skin so soft.

Best I can tell, it worked.

BY-THE-WAY....Thanks to everyone for your advice & help.
