PostSubject: INGESTION OF POISIN   Mon Jan 14, 2008 8:29 pm

Common poisons:
certain plants, such as mistletoe or dieffenbachia
Aresnic
Strychnine
Snail and slug bait
Flea sprays and other insecticides
Lead from paint or batteries
Rat or mice poisons
rotten or spoiled foods
Antifreeze
weed sprays
prescriptions for humans

DO NOT FORCE an animal to vomit if it has ingested an acid, such as drain cleaner, or lye, such as soda lime. Making the dog vomit will cause more damage to the tissies of the esophagus. But most animals willnot ingest caustic substances because of their unpleasant smell.

How to make an animal vomit:
-Hydrogen peroxide:1/2 tablespoon for small dogs and 1 tablespoon for large dogs forced down the throat and vomiting begins after a few minutes
-Salt solution:concentrated. 1 tablespoon of salt into a small cup of water then pour down the throat or put 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of salt behind the animals tounge
-Ipecac syrup:1/4 tablespoon to small dogs, 1/2 tablesppon to med dogs and no more than 1 tablespoon to large dogs.

DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING IF THE TOXIN THEY HAVE INGESTED SAYS NOT TO

Some poisone have a delayed reaction so poisoning syptoms will not show right away. Inducing the animal to vomit is the prudent action to take most of the time
